Per your suggestion to put specific times next to the 'middle' piece, here is my update lesson.

Micro Teaching #1 – Teaching students “Double Double”
Lesson Plan


Beginning                                                           1 minute
Hand games are games played using only your hands.  One hand game you may have heard of is called thumb wrestling.
Has anyone ever heard or played hand games?
I learned this game from my nieces when they were younger.  And now my nieces have taught this game to my daughters.
The only things you need to play the game are your hands and your mouth, a partner and a fast thinking brain. 

Middle                                                                         7 minutes
How to play…                                                              30 sec
Introduce the words.                                                  30 sec
Have the students practice the words/stanzas          2 minutes
Leader gets a volunteer to demonstrate                             1 minute
Group activity (divide into pairs) to practice (I will lead if necessary) and guided repetition                                                            3 minutes
Did anyone get faster?

End                                                                     2 minutes

Materials needed/space needs
No materials other than a persons’ hands
This activity can be conducted easily within the desk setup.  Voices may get a little excited as the students play the game – hopefully they will be having fun.

Upon review of the blog from this term in this class, I find a nice selection of teaching philosophies and styles discussed in the articles.  The articles suggest ways that we can direct our own teaching practice and give some examples of how a method has been used in the past.   In addition, we reflect on our own reasons for choosing math and our reasons for becoming teachers.  Finally, there is a nice selection of reflections from my own practice teaching (micro teaching) that are interesting to look back on. Finally, there is the most fun and interesting ideas for math puzzles/riddles that I solved or at least tried and that I can use in my own classroom to stimulate discussion and spur creative math thinking. All and all an interesting selection of resources to have for future use.  Thank you.

'That man' - riddle

Brothers and Sisters have I none, But that man's father is my father's son. Who is speaking?  'That man' is speaking Who is 'that man'?  That man is the speaker What makes this riddle interesting?  When I considered that 'that man's' father is my father's son, I initially thought 'that man'  was a brother.  However, we know that the speaker has no brothers (or sisters) so that makes it interesting.   The only explanation that I could think of for the riddle is that 'that man' is the speaker's reflection or something similar.  Initially I did think that the riddle referred to two individuals.  However, I could think of no other solution than the one of the speaker reflecting on himself.

Math and Me

Positive Neutral Math teacher I have many positive experiences with math.  Through elementary and secondary years, math was always relatively easy for me. I had some excellent math teachers.  One woman in particular, was amazing (I believe grade 11 pre-calculus) and she was really an inspiration for me going forward.  In any case, as a result of my 'natural' competence in math, I decided to pursue a BS in Math in University.  I told my mother that I would be an engineer but I really liked the pure math.   I have to confess that while a math degree seemed like a good idea in university years 1 and 2, by the time I was in year 3, the math grew far more difficult and I became less confident in my ability.  In my senior year, I was responsible for preparing a thesis - as a requirement for graduation.  I picked the thesis topic partly because I liked the teaching style and manner of the professor who was the expert in this field.  My thesis on the ...
